CANNON Family History
This interesting name is in most cases of early medieval English origin. It does not appear to have anything to do with firearms, but is belived to generally derive from a nickname given to someone who worked at a clergy house, or who gained the name from his dignified or clerical behaviour, or simply by working for 'The Canon' himself. As the real 'Canon' would have been (at least in theory) celibrate, the name cannot be any form of patronymic. The surname originates from the word "canun", itself from the Old French "canonie, canoine", introduced after the Norman Conquest of 1066 and subsequently absorbing the Old English pre 7th Century form "canonic"...Select Audience

Melissa
Hi, my name is Melissa. My current family tree is in Statesboro GA, but from everything I can find, our family came from Letterkenny, Donegal Ireland. The information I was able to trace to was Richard & Mary Cannon who settled in Georgia in 1732. They had 2 sons and a daughter.
Eileen M Friestad
My great grandmother was Nora Cannon born in 1865 in LaSalle, Illinois to Thomas Cannon (Cunnane) and Margaret Lynch. Thomas was born in 1822 in Galway, Ireland to Michael Cunnane (born 1794) and Bridget Margaret Williams (born about 1814 on Inishbofin, Clifden, County Galway). Records indicate that Bridget died in Clifden in March 1881. Michael Cunnane was the son of William Cunnane and Margaret Joice (Joyce?) birth dates unknown. Records indicate my Cunnane or Cannon ancestors lived in or near Tuam or Crossursa.

Colleen "Cannon" Ferrie
I am Colleen, Grandaughter of Rose Cannon, faring from Glencolumbkille, Ireland. Or, "The Glenn" as I grew up calling it. My Uncle Willie & his Brother carved 150 steps onto the side of the cliff, so the folk of "The Glenn" could enjoy the riches & beauty of the beach & ocean as they pleased. That, is, to me, a remarkable & unselfish feat, most would not have fared.

My tree only goes as far back as OโCiannain Kennon in 1515 from Brough, Caithness, Scotland
Iโm sure that at some point in the past, the Irish OโCiannain merged with the Scottish Kennon
Cheryl
Hi. My name is Cheryl. My Cannon family originate from Galway/Roscommon. My great, great Grandfather was Patrick Cannon. He left Ireland as a young man with his brother James, and eventually settled in Chesterfield, Derbyshire UK. It would seem a lot of Cannons then joined them! There is some talk that some members of the family changed or took the surname Fining? ( maybe spelt wrongly ) why this happened, we do not know.

(Part 1 of 3) The Cannon name has a long history in Ireland, but now DNA and some recorded history says its origin is from the north-west region of the Emerald Island. The (Oโ)Cannon story [dominated by DNA tribal marker R1b-L513, Subgroup D2] can trace their beginnings to the Finn Valley in Donegal, Ireland from 50 BCE. Perhaps the journey begins with the Clanna Dedad; Deda, son of Sen or Deda Mac Sin. The Cannon surname origin is from the Cenรฉl Conaill [R1b-L513, Subgroup D] who found the Dรกl Fiatach.

(Part 2 of 3) A group will also found the Kingdom of Ercing in Wales as trade with Romans will become essential around 300 CE. But how could this be? Recent discoveries from DNA testing are unlocking the migration patterns of Celtic tribes as late as 800 CE to 1200 CE. The Cannon story begins in pre-history Ireland but this line and many of his kin will move to Wales, then travel to Brittany, France during the Dark Ages.

(Part 3 of 3) Discover their newly found untold story and how forgotten texts bring their story back to life. From the ebook, โThe Tribe Withinโ learn how DNA unfolds this amazing tale and if you look in the right places, how history narrates this evidence. There is another written account of their story, but it is camouflaged in smoke and myth โ it will become the tales of King Arthur.
